The
future of food
AN
OPINION ESSAY
As
population expand and demand for meat grows, science is looking at
how to feed everyone and preserve the environment. As a result, what
we eat tomorrow will be a lot like what we eat today... Well, almost!
This
article talks about four different themes: Moo-free meat, Bug
burgers, Diary foods for vegans and Surf snacks. I think that the
most interesting is the one about vegan food, so I’m only going to
develop this one.
What
about being vegan?
It’s
true that going vegan comes with big restrictions in your diet.
Refusing to exploit animals in any way rules out all forms of milk,
yoghurt and cheese plus everything that contains eggs. And that’s
true that you’re not allowed to eat a lot of good stuff, but with
the years, you’ll see that you will have better health.
Don’t
worry about all the things you can’t eat, the lab-food revolution
is about to explode the idea of what can and can’t be part of a
vegan diet. Already available in the USA, Not Mayo is an egg-free
mayonnaise, soon to be followed by diary-free products such as Not
Milk, Not Yoghurt and Not Cheese. They are all being produced by
NotCo, which says that Not Mayo is priced the same as major brands
and it’s more profitable because it isn’t made with eggs.
In
conclusion, if you are vegan, you will have a better health, you will
pay the same for products that are better for you, for the animals
and the environment, and you won’t have to kill any animal just for
a burger or a sandwich!
I
believe that we all will become vegans one day!
