YOGA DAY IN MANHATTAN, NYC

The "Yoga Day" became an international day in 2015, and people celebrate it in major cities around the world.

A special day

This day is celebrated on the 21st of June because it's the day with the most hours of daylight in the year (summer solstice).

The prime minister of India suggested that the 21st of June should be the International Yoga Day, because in the northern hemisphere, that's the day of the summer solstice.

Calm in noisy Manhattan

The people from the photo are in New York, "the city that never sleeps", specifically in Times Square, in the heart of Manhattan. Here, it's normally busy and noisy, but in the International Yoga Day, it's silent and calm.
It's a cool message to send to the rest of the world !

The classes are free !

During all this day, yoga teachers give free classes, from dawn until sunset.
A class lasts one hour and it's free. Each person chooses a time and enrols online. Even the yoga mats are free !! ( In 2016, the yoga mats were pink, and in 2017 they were turquoise, as you can see in the picture).
